While strolling along the Promenade des Anglais, locals and tourists alike can relax in peace and quiet, taking a seat on the famous blue chairs that embody the Niçoise way of life. But how did they get here? We'll tell you all about it!
It all began in the late 1940s: wicker chairs were installed for walkers for a small fee. This was the work of Jacques Ballanger, a businessman who wanted to replace them by commissioning Charles Tordo to make 800 more durable chairs.
A true family affair takes place in his workshop!
Initially white in color, the final model dates from 1950.
Since then, the blue chair has become a symbol of an entire city and despite a significant number of thefts... it still remains in place and testifies to a whole art of living, between casinos, palaces, sea and mountains.
